Hello. My Name is Stephen

A Little Bit About Me & My Story
I’ve spent more than 35 years helping nonprofits raise money, lead better, and build movements that matter. I’ve worked in boardrooms and back offices. I’ve coached teams through campaigns, turnarounds and transformations. And I’ve learned — through triumphs and regrets — what works and what doesn’t.
Today, I bring that experience to life as a coach, strategist and speaker for mission-led professionals who want more clarity, confidence and meaning in their work.
I write Mission Possible — a weekly newsletter with wisdom, challenge and tools for people doing good work. I work on Legacy Fundraising strategy and am soon to launch LegacyOS, a signature programme for building lasting legacy fundraising strategy. I help organisations fundraise and deliver change. And I partner with individuals and organisations ready to lead differently.
I believe that leadership is a practice, not a title. That story is your most strategic asset. And that legacy isn’t about the end — it’s about the impact you create every day.
Sonya Trivedy, Executive Director of Income, Samaritans
For us at Samaritans developing a fundraising leadership programme needed to be practical but ambitious. Stephen used his fundraising knowledge and first rate facilitation skills to guide us to better define our brief and create a series of bite-sized projects that will create lasting change to the way we deliver our work and ultimately drive a better experience for our supporters. His approach was pragmatic, intelligent and fun.
My Experience & Story Can Help You In Your Story
Just a little bit about my background and experience.
After a few mistarts I found my self working for charities. I first worked in Community Fundraising at Scope for 12 years, and was part of its name change. I was Head of Regional Fundraising at UNICEF, and then went to the NSPCC as Director of Community Appeals, where I was responsible for local volunteer and community fundraising, schools, and national events across the UK. In 1999 when the Full Stop appeal was launched, I managed the appeal in the regions, which raised £55 million. From 2006 to 2010 I was Development Director for Legacy Fundraising at the NSPCC, and Chairman of Remember a Charity, where I led the shift from awareness raising of legacies to a focus on behaviour change. I was Director of Fundraising at Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre’s in the UK, and then worked as Executive Director at Action on Hearing Loss (the RNID) for short while before making the leap to working as a freelance in 2014.
In the last 10 years, I have been so lucky to have travelled across the world and worked in many countries, with non-profits, charities and business at all levels, and with some amazing inspiring people. I have spoken at conferences, given plenaries, delivered and facilitated workshops and discovery sessions, delivered training, been on many media outlets, and worked on the strategy and programmes of some great organisations.
Its been a complete privilege to work for so many great causes and so many inspiring people.
Iain Williams, Chairman, Hope Worldwide UK
Based upon an enthusiastic recommendation I bought Stephen in to run a case for support workshop for us. With so many programs we were struggling with expressing our core purpose and connected the central case to support us. In a relaxed and enjoyable 5 hour session we not only unlocked that challenge but managed to link it to our programs and have good insights into our fundraising strategy. In short we achieved more than I had hoped for.
I recommend Stephen to help you unlock insights into your charity and fundraising
